Eng. Dr. Willison Kaguga Mutagwaba is an accomplished mining engineer and consultant with over 40 years of experience in the mining and extractive sector.

He possesses extensive expertise in mining engineering, environmental management, mine closure, and artisanal and small scale mining. His career spans operational leadership, research, advisory, and academia, giving him a well rounded perspective on the industry.

Dr. Mutagwaba began his career with the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) at Buckreef Gold Mine, where he rose to Underground Mine Superintendent and later served as Development Manager. He has also worked as a Research Associate at Imperial College London and contributed to mining education at the University of Dar es Salaam. He is the Founder of MTL Consulting Company Limited and has advised governments and international organizations, including the World Bank, African Development Bank, UNDP, and UNIDO.

He holds a BSc in Mining Engineering from the University of Zambia and MSc and PhD degrees from Imperial College London. He is a registered Consulting Engineer and certified environmental expert.

Dr. Mutagwaba brings to the Board deep industry knowledge, international advisory experience, and strategic insight to support sustainable development of Tanzania’s mining sector.
